Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 27, 2026

1. Introduction

PDFEngine ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard information when you use our website and PDF processing tools at pdfengine.com.

2. File Processing and Storage

Client-side processing: Most of our tools (merge, split, rotate, reorder, watermark, page numbers, protect/unlock, PDF↔JPG) process files entirely in your browser. Your files never leave your device and are never transmitted to our servers.

Server-side processing: Tools such as compress, PDF-to-Word, and Word-to-PDF require server-side processing. For these tools:

  • Files are encrypted in transit (HTTPS)
  • Files are processed in an isolated, network-restricted environment
  • All uploaded files are automatically and permanently deleted within 1 hour
  • Files are never reviewed by humans
  • Files are never used for AI training or any purpose other than completing your requested task

3. Data We Collect

We collect minimal data:

  • Analytics data: We use privacy-focused analytics (Plausible or Google Analytics) to understand usage patterns. This includes page views, referrer URLs, browser type, and device type — but never file contents or filenames.
  • Server logs: Standard web server logs with IP addresses, which are used only for rate limiting and abuse prevention.
  • Account data (optional): If you create an optional account, we store your email address and processing history. This is clearly labeled as optional and never required to use our tools.

4. Advertising

We use Google AdSense to display advertisements. Google AdSense may collect data through cookies and similar technologies for ad personalization. You can manage your ad preferences through your browser settings or by opting out where available.

We do not sell, trade, or otherwise transfer your personal information to third parties except as described in this policy.

5. Data Retention

Uploaded files are automatically deleted within 1 hour. Analytics data is retained according to the analytics provider's default retention period. Account data is retained until you delete your account.

6. Your Rights (GDPR/CCPA)

Under applicable data protection laws, you have the right to:

  • Access — Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
  • Deletion — Request deletion of your personal data
  • Opt-out — Opt out of the sale of personal information (we do not sell data)
  • Complaint — Lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority

7. Security

We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your data, including HTTPS encryption, strict Content Security Policy headers, and isolated server-side processing environments.

8. Children's Privacy

Our service is not directed to individuals under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date.
